The Chess Fundamentals program at Explorer’s Academy is designed to introduce children to the rules, movement, and basic strategies of chess. Over 4-6 weeks, students will develop a strong foundation in chess principles through interactive games, puzzles, and practice matches.

The Chess Fundamentals program aims to:

  • Teach students the rules and structure of the game.
  • Familiarize them with the chessboard and movement of pieces.
  • Introduce basic strategies and special moves.
  • Develop logical thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Learning piece movements (pawn, knight, bishop, rook, queen, king).
  • Exploring special moves (castling, en passant, pawn promotion).
  • Recognizing key game concepts: check, checkmate, and stalemate.
  • Introduction to basic tactics (forks, pins, and skewers).

  • Warm-Up (10 min): Quick chess drills and piece movement exercises.
  • Lesson (30 min): Teaching new concepts and strategies.
  • Practice (15 min): Interactive exercises and tactical puzzles.
  • Wrap-Up (5 min): Q&A and game recap.
